On Wednesday, December 11th, the School of Mechanical Engineering – NTUA invited two experts from the EU Affairs Directorate of Motor Oil Group in the framework of the Renewable Energy Sources Course to present and discuss with the students the Group’s Strategic Investment Plan for Green Transition up to 2030.
Project Management Expert Fanis Christakopoulos presented the IRIS CCUS Project, a flagship project co-funded by the Innovation Fund that aims to reduce Motor Oil ’s refinery emissions in Agioi Theodoroi (Corinth, Greece) by implementing CO2 capture technology, producing low-carbon hydrogen and e-methanol, while preventing 8.5 million tons of CO2 emissions.
The two innovative hydrogen projects EPHYRA and TRIĒRĒS, coordinated by Motor Oil and co-funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership were presented by Vasiliki Panaretou, Technical Expert:
- Ephyra project, developing a 30 MW industrial hydrogen production facility using renewable energy and circular economy principles
- TRIĒRĒS – Greek Hydrogen Valley, creating a small-scale hydrogen valley, linking renewable hydrogen production with diverse end-users and centered on Motor Oil’s Agioi Theodoroi refinery, connecting renewable hydrogen production with diverse end-users, fostering pilot projects, and collaborating with pioneer EU valleys in Netherlands (HEAVENN) and Austria (WIVA P&G HyWest) and emerging hydrogen economies of Cyprus and Egypt.
The vision for a sustainable future could be realized through engaging with talented students who will lead the energy transition of tomorrow.
