On 14–15 October 2025, the partners of the TRIERES Hydrogen Valley convened in Groningen, the Netherlands, for the project’s 2nd General Assembly, a two-day meeting rich in technical visits, presentations, and strategic discussions on project progress and future actions.
Hosted and organised by New Energy Coalition (NEC) and Hydrogen Architects, the event offered partners valuable insights into the Dutch hydrogen ecosystem and fostered deeper collaboration between European hydrogen valleys. The TRIERES consortium expressed its warm appreciation to NEC for the excellent organisation and hospitality that made this gathering both productive and inspiring.
Day 1 was dedicated to technical visits across key hydrogen sites and facilities of the HEAVENN Valley in the Groningen region. Participants experienced first-hand the operational hydrogen infrastructure that positions the Netherlands as a leader in renewable hydrogen deployment.
Day 2 focused on presentations and discussions. Highlights included:
- An introduction of TRIERES by Motor Oil Hellas, outlining recent achievements and next steps.
- A presentation on HEAVENN by Geerte de Jong (New Energy Coalition).
- Local insights from regional authorities and stakeholders, including Katerina Radosteva.
- A presentation by HyNorth on the Regional Hydrogen Investment Agenda (René Schutte).
- Updates from NPG/SNN on regional funding opportunities (Nanne Bakker).
- A presentation by Groningen Seaports on import activities (Richard Middel).
- An overview of the European Hydrogen Backbone by Gasunie (Jochem Durenkamp).
The event concluded with the General Assembly session, where partners reviewed the project’s progress and defined priorities for the third year of implementation. The focus ahead lies on advancing the hydrogen value chain, supporting pilot applications across energy, industry, and mobility, and reinforcing collaboration between regions and funding instruments.

The meeting in Groningen reaffirmed the shared commitment of TRIERES partners to accelerate Europe’s clean hydrogen transition through cross-regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and strategic alignment of funding and innovation efforts.
